Oil Change Calculator
Enter when you last changed your oil and how you drive. You’ll get the mileage and the date it’s likely due — whichever comes first.
How this calculator works
It uses typical intervals that many vehicle manufacturers and oil makers publish, and gives you whichever limit — distance or time — you will reach first. Oil ages even when the car sits, which is why there is a time limit as well.
| Oil type | Normal driving | Severe driving | Time limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conventional | 5,000 miles | 3,000 miles | 6 months |
| Synthetic blend | 7,500 miles | 5,000 miles | 6 months |
| Full synthetic | 10,000 miles | 7,500 miles | 12 months |
Your owner’s manual is the final word. Many modern cars have an oil life monitor that calculates the interval from how the engine is actually used — if your car has one, follow it. Some engines, especially turbocharged ones, need shorter intervals than this table, and some manufacturers allow longer ones. Our guide on how often to change your oil explains the details.
Our guides are general information for typical passenger cars. Always follow your vehicle's owner's manual, and have safety-critical problems such as brakes or steering checked by a qualified mechanic.
